Explore the Wollombi Valley
There is a lot to explore in our beautiful valley; with the historic town of Wollombi just a short drive away here you’ll find cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and a number of our beautiful boutique wineries. If the great outdoors is more your style, then don’t miss the opportunity to do some bushwalking while you are here. There are 3 options for the serious walkers, Mt Warrawolong, Yengo National Park or Watagans National Park. Perfect for bushwalking, bird watching, mountain bike riding and observing native flora and fauna, these parks are also places of great indigenous significance.
If you prefer a more leisurely walk, we recommend the Wollombi Village Walk. It’s a fascinating step back into the history of our beautiful village and some of its unique buildings. Or, the Canning Street Walk is perfect for families with an interactive check list to help children discover things along the walk.
Things to do in the Wollombi Valley
- Uncover History - Explore the remnants of the original convict built Great North Road. The stone culverts are still visible at Fernances Crossing, Murrays Run and Thompson Bridge. These stone culverts where built to bridge the small gully’s along the road and provided the vital access from Sydney to northern NSW.
- Finchley Lookout - With more than 300 significant Aboriginal sites dating back over 13,000 years in the Yengo National Park and surrounding mountains, these sites are easily accessible via driving tracks and walking trails. The Finchley Lookout provides spectacular views across the national park to Mount Yengo; from here it’s just a short stroll to some fascinating Aboriginal rock carvings.
- Wollombi Village Historic Walk - Learn about early pioneer life, discover well preserved sandstone buildings and timber slab cottages then finish with a visit to the Wollombi Endeavour Museum.
- Wine Tasting - The Wollombi Valley’s vineyards have been producing fine wines in this region since the 1850’s. The vineyards and wineries are small, boutique operations run by their passionate owner operators. The grapes are picked by hand and each crop is made into small, exclusive vintages. Follow the Wollombi Wine Trail and remember, no tasting tour would be complete without a taste of the famous Dr Jurds Jungle Juice!
